Friend of shooting sports and our Veterans:

July 4 through 9, 2010, the 30th annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games is to be hosted by Denver, Colorado.  The games are the largest annually occurring wheelchair sports event in the world and include over 500 disabled veteran competitors from all over the United States, Great Britain and Puerto Rico.  The games are a joint effort between the Veterans Administration and the Paralyzed Veterans of America organization.  On July 6, 2010, the Tuesday after Independence Day, the trapshooting games are to be hosted by the Family Shooting Center in Cherry Creek State Park.

The events are run like the Olympics with formal ceremonies and medal events.  More importantly, the games introduce wheelchair sports to newly injured veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq as well as assisting the continued rehabilitation of disabled vets injured as long ago as Korea and Viet Nam.

As the host of the trap event, the Family Shooting Center has taken on several tasks to enhance the shotgun range at Cherry Creek as well as provide quality hardware and ammunition for the veterans to utilize at the games and at future wheelchair venues.

Hardware and Ammunition

Item 1)   For the shooters’ benefit directly, in conjunction with the Paralyzed Veterans of America, we are raising funds for 15 new trap guns to replace a quantity of cheap, poor quality guns used at the Spokane wheelchair games in 2009.  The goal is to raise $15,750.   The PVA national contact authorizing our fundraiser has requested 15 Browning Citori Lightning Satins to fulfill the anticipated need for the vets.  Browning has generously agreed to provide the guns, which are a new promotional run for 2010, at less than wholesale cost!  We will have an excellent quality gun for our wheelchair vets to use, a fitting return and thank you for those who have given so much of themselves for country and fellow citizens.  The guns will be purchased through us and transferred to the Paralyzed Veterans of America who will retain ownership of the guns.  They will be utilized by our paralyzed vets in future trap events organized through the PVA.

Item 2)   Ammunition will be made available by the Family Shooting Center at cost.  The expectation of need will require about a $2000 cost outlay.

We are requesting assistance in providing these items for the games.    In the next few weeks, we will need to provide the majority of the funds to acquire the guns.  If you can provide $100, $200, $500 or whatever you may be able to spare for the benefit of our veterans, any donation will be much appreciated.  If you desire, your donation may be recognized by the PVA (a 501-c-3 non-profit) for tax purposes.  Please indicate such on your check.  A check should be made out to Family Shooting Center, annotated as “for Paralyzed Veterans of America Wheelchair games fundraiser” and sent to the mailing address at the top of this letter.  A letter of acknowledgement will be sent to you. You may also donate by credit card - over the phone or in person at the range.

We greatly appreciate your help in the support of our war injured veterans.
