Course Description
This is a 12 hour course- this is part 2 of the course
The Specified Semi‑Automatic Firearms (SSF) Course is designed to meet the training requirements established under Colorado’s new SSF legislation taking effect August 1st, 2026. This class provides shooters with the knowledge, safety fundamentals, and legal understanding necessary to lawfully purchase, possess, and operate semi‑automatic firearms that fall under the state’s “specified” category.
This comprehensive course blends classroom instruction with hands‑on practical exercises to ensure every student leaves confident, informed, and fully prepared to meet the new statutory standards. This course will meet your 12 hour requirement – otherwise known as your EXTENDED course which by law must be offered and taken over two days.
What This Course Covers
Understanding the SSF Law A clear breakdown of Colorado’s new restrictions, definitions, and compliance requirements for semi‑automatic firearms with detachable magazines.
Firearms Safety & Handling Core safety principles, responsible operation, safe storage, and range etiquette tailored specifically to semi‑automatic platforms.
Mechanical Function & Operation How semi‑automatic firearms work, including cycling, loading/unloading, malfunction clearing, and platform‑specific considerations.
Legal Responsibilities & Ownership Requirements What the law requires before purchase, during ownership, and while transporting or using SSF‑classified firearms.
Written Assessment A short exam covering safety, legal knowledge, and operational understanding. Passing both the written and live‑fire portions is required for course completion.
Course Outcome
Students who successfully complete all components of the SSF Course will receive documentation verifying they have met Colorado’s SSF training requirement — enabling lawful purchase and ownership of specified semi‑automatic firearms once the law takes effect.
Important Note
This course is mandatory for individuals wishing to purchase SSF‑classified firearms after August 1st, 2026. Seats will fill quickly — early registration is strongly encouraged.

Course Cancellation/Change
Substitutions of attendee may be made at any time.
Attendees must cancel at least 72 hours prior to the course date to receive a full refund less a $15 administrative fee.
For cancellations received within 48 hours of the course date no cash refunds will be provided. Instead, a one-time class rescheduling can be made. A rescheduled course must occur within 12 months from original course date. If a course has not been attended within the 12-month period all course fees are forfeited by the participant.
Failure to attend the course or cancellations less than 48 hours notification will result in no refund or credit of the course fee or rescheduling.
The Family Shooting Center reserves the right to cancel or reschedule seminars/classes at any time. IF we cancel or reschedule the seminar/class due to weather or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, you are entitled to a full refund. The Family Shooting Center is not responsible for travel arrangements, travel fees, or any expenses incurred by you as a result of such cancellation. IF The Family Shooting Center cancels a seminar/class in which you are enrolled, you will be contacted at the email address you provided when registering, so please be sure to provide a valid email address and check your-email prior to attending class.
